- Your first sentence needs to grab the reader. Otherwise they won’t read the second one.
- One idea per sentence.
- Put the important words early in the sentence.
- Use as few words as possible. If you can remove it. Remove it. Always.
- Does each sentence pass the “So what?” test?
- Write for clarity. Use simple words. Short sentences.
- Show don’t tell.
- Give the reader what he deeply desires. Not what you desire.
- Lay-out matters. Whitespace, bullet points, headings. Use them.
- Come back after 24 hours. Print and edit your text.
- Tell a story. Drag the reader down the page. Step on a slippery slope.
- Successful writers write on a schedule.
- Writing is rewriting.
